Marty Finklestein, an off, off, off Broadway director has inherited a valuable portrait of an early American Jewish ancestor.; A wealthy cousin Toddy Renard and his wife Helen extend a dinner invitation in which they seek to buy the portrait from their poor relation. Toddy also extends the invitation to his brother Henry and his malingering wife Agnes. Over pate, crepes, antics by the French maid Honore, high notes from Marty’s singer wife, and pretentions about their Jewish roots, a wager is made between the brothers as to who will buy the portrait.
I wrote this comedy for NPR Radio some years back; and now The Ad Lib Theater will present it in full production with Roger Hendricks Simon, Jim Williams, June Stein and Caitlin O’Heaney in the cast.
